Myers Auction Gallery presented their Twentieth Century Decorative Arts auction with over600 fresh-to-the market estate found items.
The auction featured over 200 pieces of mid century modern furniture. Over 100 offerings of fine art including abstract paintings, original illustration art, contemporary and impressionist paintings. Illustration art includes Dean Cornwell and Earl Moran and Lucian Bernhard pin-up paintings. American Impressionist fine art includes paintings by Guy Wiggins, Johann Berthelsen, James Allen and more.
The sale includes a large collection of Leon Polk Smith paintings from the estate of Polk’s lifelong partner Robert Jamieson. Also included are paintings by Magical Realism artist Julia Thecla from the estate of David Porter. A major oil on canvas painting dated 1961 by Paul Jenkins will be offered along with abstract paintings by Cleve Gray, Tetsuo Ochikubo and a most unusual abstract trapezium painting by Sonia Sekula. An exquisite and fine collection of pietra dura mid century modern stone inlaid plaques by artist Richard Blow will be offered.
Also included are a wide variety of fine prints by Joan Miro, Helen Frankenthaler, Larry Rivers, Cottingham, Poliak and photographs by Irving Penn.
Works of sculpture include a large painted wood assemblage by artist and Avant-Garde gallerist Betty Parsons, a large bronze by Francisco Zuniga, and works by Raymond Rivoire, Emory P. Seidel, Anthony Benjamin, Norman Mercer and other sculptors. Artist signed books by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and Ed Ruscha will complete the art offerings.
Over 200 pieces of mid-century modern Danish and American furniture will be offered including a Laverne “Eternal Forest” table, a rare pair of Finn Juhl - NV 53 lounge chairs, Hans Wegner chairs including a Papa Bear chair and set of dining chairs. Other tables and chairs include Robsjohn Gibbings. A most unusual collection of one-of-a-kind hand crafted furniture by NY artist Leon Polk Smith will compliment the large selection of paintings by the artist. All Leon Polk Smith furniture will include original vintage slides and photographs of the artist with furniture in situ.
Art pottery includes studio pieces by Picasso, Newcomb, Rookwood and other artists. Art glass includes a nice selection of Lalique, Steuben, Moser, Loetz and other American and European glassmakers.
Art Deco lighting by Galle, Handel, Muller Freres will highlight the over 50 period lamps including many Danish modern examples. A fine selection of sterling silver and jewelry dating from the 1920’s to 1960’s by makers Georg Jensen, Tiffany, Cartier, Ortega and an Arne Jacobsen stainless flatware set will complete the sale.
